Full Stack, Backend & Frontend Developer Trainee

Responsibilities

• Build and ship UI features in React/Next.js against real product requirements, under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Translate designs and schema definitions into responsive, accessible, cross-browser-compatible interfaces.
• Integrate frontend components with backend APIs, including authenticated and streaming endpoints.
• Write clean, typed, testable code and participate in code reviews — as both a recipient and, over time, a reviewer.
• Debug issues across the stack boundary, from state-management bugs to API integration mismatches.
• Document your components and decisions for the rest of the team.
• Build and maintain REST/async APIs that power the Sustainext platform, under senior engineering guidance.
• Design database schemas and write efficient, correct queries against PostgreSQL.
• Implement background/async workflows for data processing, report generation and integrations using Celery.
• Work with authentication, authorization and multi-tenant data isolation correctly and securely.
• Contribute to deployment pipelines on Azure and support production issue triage.
• Write automated tests and participate in code review.
• Progressively pick up FastAPI/async and applied-AI work (RAG, LLM integration) as you grow in the role.
• Own features end-to-end — from UI to API to database — with support from frontend- and backend-focused senior engineers.
• Build schema-driven UI backed by real APIs you also help design and implement.
• Debug issues that cross the frontend/backend boundary faster than a single-layer specialist could.
• Contribute to both codebases' quality — types, tests, code review — and rotate emphasis as the team's needs shift.

Qualifications

• 0 years (freshers) — strong academic / graduation project work required The Trainee Programme
• This is a fresher-friendly entry point into Sustainext's tech team, designed for candidates who don't yet have professional
• Months 1–3 (Traineeship): You join as a Trainee on a fixed stipend. This period is used for structured onboarding, mentored project work, and a genuine evaluation of fit on live or near-live engineering problems.
• On successful completion: You are absorbed into a full-time role on the relevant track (Frontend / Backend / Full Stack Developer), with the compensation structure and statutory benefits described under Remuneration & Perks below.
• Extension/exit: If more time is needed to assess fit, the traineeship may be extended by mutual agreement; if the fit isn't right, the engagement ends at or before the 3-month mark.
• React and Next.js (App Router) — building and structuring real applications, not just single-page demos.
• TypeScript, and ideally exposure to React 19.
• State management at scale using Redux Toolkit.
• Tailwind CSS (Tailwind v4 exposure is a plus) for building consistent, responsive UI.
• Axios interceptor patterns — handling cookie-based JWT injection and 401/403 responses gracefully.
• TanStack Query (v5 exposure is a plus) for data fetching, caching and server state.
• Consuming SSE / streaming APIs (e.g., displaying token-by-token or incremental responses from a backend/LLM service).
• Comfort integrating with an auth-as-a-service provider (e.g., Auth0, Clerk, Firebase Auth, Supabase Auth, or similar).
• Charting libraries — Chart.js or Nivo Charts.
• Azure Blob Storage integration from the client side.
• Client-side generation of .docx / .xlsx files.
• Having built a design system or reusable component library from scratch.
• Debugging React 19 effect-dependency and callback-identity issues (stale closures, unnecessary re-renders).
• Python, with hands-on project experience in Django 4.2 and Django REST Framework (async views via adrf are a plus).
• Authentication with SimpleJWT and/or django-allauth.
• PostgreSQL — schema design, queries, and working with an ORM.
• Background job processing with Celery and Celery Beat on Redis.
• Exposure to Azure-based deployment concepts: containerizing to Azure Container Registry, deploying to App Service, and using Blob/Queue/Table storage; Azure Pipelines for CI/CD is a plus.
• Server-side report generation — WeasyPrint, docxtpl, or LibreOffice-based document/PDF generation.
• Awareness of enterprise system integrations (SAP, Salesforce, Xero, or similar ERPs) - understanding how to consume third-party/enterprise APIs.
• Additionally valuable: Python 3.13, async FastAPI with Pydantic v2, asyncpg or hand-written SQL against Postgres (including Row-Level Security), Docker.
• Any exposure to production RAG (vector databases, embeddings), LLM API integration and streamed LLM responses, JWT verification, or Redis for caching/rate-limiting is a strong plus for this track.
• React and Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS.
• State/data fetching fundamentals — Redux Toolkit and/or TanStack Query.
• Ability to consume authenticated and streaming (SSE) APIs from the client, including handling 401/403 flows via an interceptor pattern.
