Overview
Senior Site Reliability Engineer III for Amgen's biopharmaceutical digital platforms in Hyderabad — ensure reliability of regulated, life-sciences systems using Kubernetes, Terraform and multi-cloud (AWS / Azure / GCP), with SLO-driven reliability engineering and GxP-grade compliance.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate highly-available systems with Kubernetes and Docker for Amgen's biopharmaceutical digital platforms — services that support research, manufacturing and commercial functions where reliability and data integrity carry regulatory weight.
- Implement infrastructure-as-code with Terraform across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure and GCP), authoring reusable, validated modules so that teams can stand up compliant environments from a single template.
- Establish observability and proactive reliability engineering — Prometheus / Grafana and cloud-native monitoring, meaningful SLIs and SLOs, alerting tuned so that patient- or quality-impacting incidents escalate within minutes while noise is suppressed.
- Own incident management end to end: on-call rotation, rapid triage, blameless post-incident reviews, and automation of remediation so recurring issues are engineered away rather than re-fought.
- Ensure security, compliance and performance in a regulated environment — GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP-5 and comparable frameworks — producing the change records, validation artefacts and audit trails that survive inspection, and treating documentation as code wherever possible.
- Drive disaster-recovery and business-continuity engineering: multi-region failover, tested point-in-time restore, and resilience patterns proven through regular game-days rather than assumed.
- Collaborate on cloud migrations and modern-architecture adoption — moving legacy workloads to cloud-native, containerised designs without compromising the validated state that regulated systems require.
- Reduce toil through automation and self-service tooling, and partner with development and quality teams to shift reliability and compliance left into design and CI.
- Mentor SREs and graduate engineers, run knowledge-sharing sessions on Kubernetes, Terraform and reliability practice, and represent the Hyderabad SRE team in global architecture and reliability forums.
Qualifications
- 6+ years in Site Reliability Engineering / DevOps with strong, hands-on production Kubernetes and container (Docker) experience.
- Terraform across at least one — ideally two or three — of AWS, Azure and GCP: reusable modules, remote state per environment, plan reviews for cost and security.
- Observability and SRE fundamentals: Prometheus / Grafana (or cloud-native equivalents), SLIs / SLOs, error budgets, on-call discipline, and blameless post-mortems.
- Strong scripting / programming, Python preferred, for reliability tooling and automation.
- Working understanding of regulated software environments — GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP-5, SOX or HIPAA — and the validation and change-control implications they bring.
- Disaster-recovery and high-availability design experience (multi-region, failover, tested restores).
- Excellent written communication — you will author change records and validation artefacts read by auditors and regulators.
- Life-sciences / pharma or other regulated-industry experience is a strong plus. Bachelor's or higher in CS / Engineering or a numerate science; cloud and Kubernetes certifications valued.
