Overview
Promise is transforming how government agencies and utilities support people in financial difficulty through technology. We're looking for a Software Engineer - AI to design and deliver end-to-end generative AI solutions that power our mission of dignity and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop AI-powered applications and services focusing on generative AI and LLMs
- Implement AI pipelines for prompt engineering, document parsing, model fine tuning, and RAG systems
- Partner across teams to identify opportunities where AI reduces friction, increases efficiency, and solves real-world challenges
- Track and apply advancements in the AI landscape to guide strategy and adoption
- Contribute to the vision, goals, and roadmap for AI/ML development as an individual contributor
Qualifications
- Experience building generative AI and LLM applications
- Comfort operating in ambiguity
- Strong technical judgment about what to build now versus what to scale over time
- Ability to make meaningful technical decisions and own them
Nice to have
- Experience building in early-stage or high-growth environments
- Founder/co-founder experience
- Scaling AI-powered systems beyond initial prototypes
- Strong product instincts alongside technical depth
