View on GlassdoorPros: - You will get to work with a modern web/mobile/backend tech stack (React Native/Flutter, Remix/Next.js, Go/Python (Gin/Flask/PostgreSQL/Timescale)) - Compensation and benefits are usually great, or atleast they were - Team members are usually helpful, but communication isn't always easy and smooth -- you need to clarify things at each step -- beyond what would otherwise seem apparent or implied -- if this sounds confusing it is because it kind of is
Cons: - Late nights can be common during release cycles. More common than one might expect. - Release deadlines aren't really discussed with the agreement of everyone but it's side effects will have to be shared by everyone
View on GlassdoorPros: There are genuinely smart and talented people in the company. For someone early in their career, especially in tech, there can be good exposure, learning and opportunities to take ownership. Some of the people you work with will probably be the best part of your experience here.
Cons: The management culture can be extremely toxic and biased. Favouritism and inconsistent treatment can feel normalised, and accountability often seems to depend on who you are and who you know. If you resign, don't be surprised if it starts feeling personal. What should be a normal professional decision can sometimes feel like it is being treated as a personal grudge. The change in behaviour after you resign can be quite telling. Bad people-management practices seem to have very few consequences. A manager can micromanage, create an unhealthy environment for the team and still get promoted. When people displaying these behaviours continue to progress, employees understand very quickly what the organisation actually rewards. The HR team and structure need a complete rethink. The CFO is also the head of HR, which says a lot about where the people function sits in the organisation. In my experience, HR often felt like a namesake function rather than an independent team empowered to challenge management, ensure fairness or stand up for good people practices. Professionalism can also be questionable. Casual use of bad words and inappropriate language in workplace conversations is surprisingly normalised, including in situations where you would expect better standards. The problem isn't one isolated manager or one bad experience. It's the combination of weak HR, bias, favouritism, micromanagement, inconsistent accountability and poor management practices that makes the environment difficult.
