Strong product and talent, but Internal Audit falls short
Pros: Snowflake has an exceptional product, strong engineering talent, competitive compensation, and operates at impressive technical scale. The company provides exposure to cloud-native technologies, SaaS security, SOC 2, vulnerability management, and enterprise security practices. My criticism is directed at my experience within the Internal Audit organization, not the company as a whole. I believe many engineering and product teams at Snowflake likely offer a very different and significantly better employee experience.
Cons: The experience within the Internal Audit organization was disappointing and far removed from the innovative culture that Snowflake is known for. The function is dominated by excessive documentation, repetitive evidence collection, and administrative overhead rather than meaningful security work. Innovation is encouraged in theory but rarely appreciated in practice. Significant technical contributions often receive little visibility, while recognition appears concentrated among those presenting the work rather than those executing it. Workload management is poor, with multiple concurrent responsibilities assigned without adequate consideration of capacity, leading to sustained stress and burnout. Feedback is frequently delivered in a highly critical manner, focusing on documentation minutiae rather than technical impact or professional development. If you’re passionate about Product Security, AI Security, Cloud Security, or Security Engineering, this team is unlikely to provide the environment or mentorship needed to grow.

The interview was well organized, and the interviewer was professional and friendly. However, the technical assessment focused heavily on Apache Spark, which was not mentioned in the job description and wasn't part of my experience, making it more challenging than expected.
