Round 1: Technical Interview
The first round was with the Tech Lead. Before starting, I was asked why I left my previous organization. I honestly shared that I had been working in a startup where I was regularly putting in 12–14 hour workdays, which left me with no personal time and was the main reason I decided to move on.
I was then told that their company also follows a similar work culture , 12–14 hour days, weekend work, and late-night bug fixes and was asked if I was still comfortable continuing. Since it was a remote opportunity and I wanted to proceed, I agreed.
The rest of the round focused on basic JavaScript and React questions, and overall it went smoothly.
Round 2: Technical Interview
The second round was again with the same Tech Lead and was a much better experience. It included:
An easy DSA question: Find the second largest element in an array
Questions on JavaScript, React, Node.js, and MongoDB
A small React + Redux counter app
This round was structured and fair. The Tech Lead was professional, and both technical rounds were overall positive.
CTO Rounds
The experience changed completely in the CTO rounds.
The CTO seemed disinterested during the interview and was having lunch with his camera turned on throughout the round, which was quite distracting and came across as unprofessional. The questions were unclear, random, and not structured in a way that genuinely evaluated technical ability. Instead, the interaction felt more intimidating than meaningful.
After about a week, I followed up with HR and was told the CTO wanted another round. Unfortunately, the second CTO round was almost the same, same attitude, same vague questioning, and the same feeling that the conversation was more about asserting authority than assessing a candidate.
Post-Interview Experience
After completing 4 rounds, I followed up multiple times for an update. Despite the time invested, there was no proper response, no closure, and no professional communication afterward.
Overall Experience
The first two rounds with the Tech Lead were professional, structured, and fair. Unfortunately, the CTO rounds felt unstructured, repetitive, and unnecessarily uncomfortable, while the post-interview communication was the most disappointing part. If a company expects candidates to invest time across four rounds, the least it can do is provide a clear response. Overall, the process felt exhausting and not respectful of the candidate’s time.
